Gran Torino

confesso que demoro a actualizar-me e, por isso, só há duas semana atrás é que tive oportunidade de ver o filme 'Gran Torino'.

já tinha ficado com vontade de o ver porque a música que o Jamie Cullum canta para este filme é assim qualquer coisa de outro mundo. e o filme então, credo, nunca chorei tanto no final de um filme. nem com o Titanic.

para quem não conhece a música, aconselho vivamente a procurar no youtube, mas é para ouvir com ouvidos de ouvir... (sim, não parece fazer grd sentido esta última frase mas vocês percebem :)

para quem ainda não visitou a linha do Tua e não vai ter oportunidade de o fazer

pq vocês não sabem como é ouvir as pessoas da Aldeia da Luz (Alentejo) a falarem sobre a mudança da sua aldeia. imaginem o que é a transladação de um cemitério, imaginem o que é ver as casas e ruas onde se nasceu e cresceu debaixo de água.

pq há quem irá deixar de ter meio de transporte
pq há quem irá ficar sem as suas terras
pq há quem irá ficar ainda mais isolado

A Cidade e As Serras, Eça de Queirós

Depois de ter visto o documentário "Pare, Escute e Olhe" (que fala sobre a construção da polémica Barragem do Tua) tenho alguma dificuldade em acreditar que daqui a 10 anos ainda encontremos rios de Verão assim.

Acho que o mais provável é  encontrar qualquer coisa do género:

um lago artificial
com água parada (por vezes verde-musgosa) e sem peixes
lago esse que cobre vales e vales, aldeias, terrenos férteis e florestas
tudo submerso

Existirão sítios que apenas serão vísiveis na memória de quem os conheceu antes da barragem. E cada vez mais será uma questão de actividades recreativas em lagos artificiais, cuja única centelha de vida são as ondas provocadas pelos barcos a motor dos turistas.

É caso para dizer, triste desenvolvimento este.

imprints

influenced by the recent TV series DollHouse, I've started using this new word (imprint) whenever I write or think in English. that and some other reflection propelled by the almost-insidious but mostly unexciting hours riding a bus to-and-fro Amarante and Lisbon, got me to this conclusion:

films - not only a big entertainment industry, they represent a means of influencing people into doing things, whether it be wanting to buy the car the hero in that film owned, go out to Starbucks because that cup of latte looked sooo yummy or even go and volunteer in an NGO just for the sake of it. 

more than that, films also have this way of getting into your skin, much like music, people and love.

I have a soft spot for romantic comedies and I do know that my taste in films is not what you consider, well, for the lack of another word, tasteful. so yes, I haven't yet been able to say that that-particularly-Oscar-awarded-film impressed me or that it-is-so-good-you-have-to-see-it.

but when it comes to love, by now, I can refer to, at least, two films which don't seem to stop impressing me and imprinting in my mind, my beliefs - my feelings - their message.

even though I've seen them quite some times and albeit knowing my tastes rarely resemble that of my friends, it does not hurt to try and influence some more souls for my cause.

Film industry, albeit every scandal and tragedy it encompasses, it's at its core, a means of entertaining people.

More than that, it is also used as a tool for learning. Learning about love, about death, friends, family, crime, world hunger, etc. This film is about blogs and writers.

It's a film about finding happiness in what you do for a living.

é uma comédia romântica. com uma interpretação mt engraçada da Meryl Streep. mas faz-nos pensar. especialmente quando andamos à procura do que nos faz feliz. e cheira-me que há muita gente que como a Julie, tb anda à procura...
